If you were stuck on a desert island, what medicinal plant would you hope to find while scavenging?
Tulsi and Rose!
Everyone has a folk healer in the family—the grandma with the onion chest rub, the uncle with the hot toddies. Have you picked up any healing traditions from your bloodline?
Gargling with hot salt water was the extent of wisdom bestowed upon me for natural healing! My family was heavily reliant on Western medications, which is one of the reasons I took interest in ancient healing modalities.
I would have loved to learn from my great grandmother who was Mexican/Native American/Italian and Spanish Basque, but she died right before I was born.
My grandfather always told me that if I didnʼt feel well in the morning to get up and shower, and then decide how I felt. I still carry that simple tool with me today and it works. My mama always made matzo ball soup when I didn’t feel well. Soup and sleep are still my go-to remedies.
We think about everything in terms of plants. What's your spirit flower?
Night Blooming Jasmine
The digital life is a vibe killer in large doses. What do you do to disconnect?
I definitely take breaks from social media when I feel myself starting to feel too connected to my phone. I
think having simple rituals throughout the day help me to stay grounded and be present in the moment.
What first step do you recommend to newbies who are just starting out on their wellness journeys?
Donʼt compare your journey to someone elseʼs. Comparison is the thief of joy. And that person with 50k followers and the seemingly perfect life has shadow work, trauma, and shit just like you do. If they act like they donʼt then they are bypassing.
Also, be gentle with yourself and seek balance. I see so many people attempt extreme wellness paths and I encourage them to just pause and tread softly. You will find your way if you continue to be gentle with yourself. Place one hand over your heart and one over your womb. Close your eyes. The answer is always there.
Healing is all about community, and finding the people you trust. Who are your go-to gurus?
I don’t follow one person, and feel grateful to feel in alignment with so many different paths.
Ram Dass is my main teacher who led me to Maharaj-ji and Hanuman.
Jack Kornfield, Trudy Goodman, Pema Chödrön are other teachers I follow. I also listen to a lot of Terence McKenna and Carl Sagan. My dog 🤍
I also have a Taoist teacher in Los Angeles who gave me the foundation when is started Chinese medical school. I studied tantra for many years as well.
Ram Dass said “Treat everyone you meet as if they are God in drag.” It’s really as simple as that.
Out of all the lessons you've learned, what's the number one piece of business advice you would give anyone starting out?
Trust that you will bring something special to your field. Donʼt try to be like everyone else.
So many people told me I would struggle because the Chinese Medicine world “was saturated”, and I have found the opposite. Of course it took time, a second job in the beginning, and effort to get my practice
going, but I am thriving in both Ojai and Los Angeles. Your people will find you if you are in alignment with yourself.
What's you favorite TFP product? How does it heal you or enhance your life?
I love the Foria personal lube and the Kana Lavender CBD mask. I add it cold from the fridge on top of my other products and itʼs divine.
WHY THE KANA MASK WORKS
Music as medicine, what's your current or forever go-to album?
Iʼm a music freak, so this list could go on and on (I make a playlist nearly every week). Jim James and
Andrew Bird have most impressed me the past couple of years.
*DEALERS* CHOICE: Are there any projects you're working on, fun factoids about you or PSAs you'd like to share with our community?
Iʼm working on a couple of projects. One is a cookbook with a friend.
Iʼm also working on my own book for Internal Alchemy, but Iʼm taking my time and enjoying the process. I don’t see it being complete for many years.
